EDMONTON – An elderly woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in west Edmonton Friday evening.

The 69-year-old was hit by a Dodge pickup truck while walking in the area of Webber Greens Drive and 92 A Ave. around 8:15 p.m.

Police say the woman got off a bus with her groceries, stepped off the curb near the corner and began crossing Webber Greens Drive; that’s when she was struck by the westbound Dodge Dakota, police say.

“EMS and fire arrived first on scene. They did perform CPR at the scene, but unfortunately the lady succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” Acting Staff Sergeant Dave Thomson with the Edmonton Police Service said Friday evening.

Thomson says it does not appear as though drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

Officers are still working to determine whether or not speed was a factor.

The 25-year-old man who was driving the truck was not injured. Police say it’s not known whether or not the man will be charged.

This is Edmonton’s 14th traffic fatality of 2014.
