CALGARY – Well known for its clothing stores and coffee shops, Kensington is in the running to be named one of the Great Places in Canada.
The northwest business district has been nominated in the category of ‘Great Neighbourhood’ in the annual contest held by the Canadian Institute of Planners.
It’s competing against Iles de la Madeleine in Quebec.
Kensington is home to the annual Sun and Salsa festival, but was among several areas in Calgary overcome by raging flood waters in June of 2013.
Canadians can visit www.GreatPlacesInCanada.ca to nominate their favourite street, neighbourhood or public space as part of the contest.
Nominations will be accepted until August 19th, and voting will run August 20th – September 25th.
Winners will be announced on November 7th, 2014.
Last year, over 100,000 people voted and 68 nominations were received.
