TORONTO – It’s every parent’s nightmare — your car gets stolen with your baby strapped in its car seat.
That’s what happened to a mother in Houston, Texas on Monday.
As she was inside paying for gas, someone jumped into her car and drove off with her eight-month-old infant in the back.
An amber alert was issued and the car was found abandoned a few hours later but the baby was gone.
A tourist visiting the area from Vietnam discovered the baby in some bushes while out jogging just before 8 a.m.
The baby was still secured in her car seat when she was found.
“There were a few ants on her hand,” the tourist told ABC News. “I was very worried and a little bit scared.”
According to a spokesman for the Houston Police Department the baby appeared healthy, but was taken to a children’s hospital to be checked “out of precaution.”
She was later released to her mother.
Police say the suspect is described as a black man in his late teens to early 20s. He has a slant in his hairdo with a small white or blond patch on one side.
