One man is in critical condition in hospital this morning after an accident involving a pickup truck.

Police say the incident happened around 5:30 yesterday afternoon in a quiet residential area of Whalley.

The victim was riding in the truck around 128A street and 100th Avenue with three other men.

There were at least two people riding in the back, sitting on the tailgate.

Police say the vehicle was in motion when it suddenly accelerated.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, couldn’t grab a handhold in time, falling and smashing his head into the pavement below.

He remains in critical condition in hospital with serious head injuries.

The driver, another 23-year-old man, has been located and questioned by police.

Investigators say drugs and/or alcohol are believed to have been involved in the incident.

No charges have been laid so far.
