REVELSTOKE B.C. — Speeding in a vehicle full of marijuana didn’t pay off for a pair of B.C. residents.

A man and woman, both in their 60’s, were pulled over on the Trans Canada Highway in Revelstoke at 2:30 a.m. Friday for driving too fast.

When RCMP searched the vehicle officers seized 18.5 pounds of pot worth an estimated $37,000.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Police say the pair were heading for the prairies.

Mounties say this is nothing new for the region. Earlier this week officers seized $5,000 worth of cocaine, pot and drug paraphernalia on the same stretch of highway. Four arrests were made in that bust.

“The Revelstoke RCMP frequently encounter large movements of marijuana through the community,” says Staff Sgt Kurt Grabinsky.
