WATCH: Eight-year-old Quinn van de Keere recent played a role on stage in Burnaby — and it got him noticed. Linda Aylesworth has his story.
If you watched the “The Christmas Coat” play in Burnaby last December, you may have watched a star in the making.
Quinn van de Keere, an 8-year-old from Vancouver, won a top North American acting award for his performance.
Van de Keere won “Best Performance in Live Theatre – Young Actor” at the Annual Young Artist Awards.
He was nominated by his mother for his performance in The Christmas Coat, which ran at the Burnaby Village Museum in December.
Up against candidates who had starred on Broadway, van de Keere shocked even his family when he was announced as the winner.
“I’m really surprised, I can’t believe it!” he said to the crowd when winning.
Quinn still wants to become a scientist – or as his mother said, “build robots” – when he grows up, but his win means they’ll be many more opportunities on stage and screen.
For his part, Quinn is modest about his abilities.
“An actor is just a person who has a really good imagination, and who’s really good at pretending,” he says.
