Civic workers vow job action in White Rock

WHITE ROCK, B.C. – Civic workers in White Rock, B.C., are preparing for job action.

Officials with CUPE Local 402-01 say 72-hour strike notice has been served and members expect to begin limited job action by Friday.

Local union president Mike Guraliuk says services such as permits and licensing, pay parking, bylaw enforcement and finance will be affected.

He says members have been seeking a new contract for 10 months and this is the first time the union has served strike notice in the Metro Vancouver suburb.

He says the key issues include hours of work for all employees, fair treatment for casual and part-time workers and protection for members who become seriously ill.

Guraliuk says rotating job action will follow the Friday walkout, if needed.
