The family of a young man who was stabbed nine times at a Surrey house party early Saturday morning says he is lucky to be alive.
Eighteen-year-old Kody Butchko was at a house party near 133rd Street and 62nd Avenue in Panorama Ridge when a fight broke out at around 1:45 a.m.
Butchko’s family believes the teen was trying to break up an argument when he was brutally attacked.
The apprentice plumber, who was supposed to be travelling to Mexico on Monday, only remembers grabbing his shoes before being stabbed and chased for two blocks before collapsing.
After he fell to the ground, he was stabbed some more. Police believe four men are responsible for attacking him and beating him when he was down.
He was found by a passerby with stab wounds to his back, legs, and torso, and was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital.
Saturday he underwent bowel surgery and is now recovering in hospital.
His family is thankful he is alive, but want those who attacked him to be arrested.
Surrey RCMP’s serious crime section is now investigating, but no arrests have been made.
