Arson suspected in Montreal North blaze

MONTREAL – A fire that forced the evacuation of residents from an apartment building in Montreal North is under investigation by the arson squad.

Over 40 firefighters were called to the scene at around 1 a.m., after being alerted to the fire by a passerby who noticed the flames coming out of a window of a third-floor unit.

The fire spread quickly to the roof, forcing the evacuation of about 40 residents from the building, and from other apartment buildings in close proximity.

Authorities confirmed that most would be able to return to their homes.

There were no serious injuries reported, although one woman was briefly hospitalized to treat smoke inhalation.

The apartment building is located on the corner of Langelier Blvd. near Dijon St.
