WATCH: Pro baseball player hits ‘birthday home run’ for mom watching in stands

It’s the sort of moment you wouldn’t dare script in a sports movie.

During Wednesday night’s matchup between the Minnesota Twins and Tampa Bay Rays, Twins first baseman Chris Colabello’s mother was watching her son play from the stands.

It also happened to be Silvana Colabello’s birthday.

And wouldn’t you know it – later that night, Mrs. Colabello was being interviewed on live TV as her son was up to bat, with the reporter remarking, “Let’s hope Chris gives her a nice present here in his at bat.”

As if on cue, Colabello connects on the next pitch thrown his way – and it’s going, going, gone.

Even the play-by-play announcer got in on the fun, exclaiming “Happy Birthday Mom!” as Colabello ran his bases.

The video of Colabello’s hit has since gone viral, a highlight of both a solid home run hit and an improbable birthday gift.

Chris Colabello ultimately drove in four runs, lifting the Minnesota Twins to a 6-4 victory over the Devil Rays.
