Man allegedly used online personal ads to gain access to children

NEWMARKET, Ont. – Police say a 33-year-old registered sex offender is facing multiple child sexual exploitation charges in an investigation that began last year.

Officers started looking into a man they say was posting online ads seeking “intimate relationships” with people, particularly single parents with babies or toddlers in the Newmarket area.

Police allege he was seeking to gain access to their children.

They say earlier this month, the man met with an undercover officer posing as a single mother from Toronto. They allege he meant to sexually assault her children.

He was arrested and police say a search of a residence in his hometown of East Gwillimbury led them to seize child pornography and several computers.

Frank Cunningham is due in Newmarket court Thursday.
