UPDATE: The bail hearing for the alleged attacker has been delayed until April 22.
The union representing Vancouver transit operators is demanding that no bail be allowed for a man believed to have assaulted a bus driver in Surrey last month.
Unifor Local 111 president Nathan Woods said in a press release that “it would be unacceptable if the suspect was released on any amount of bail.”
Twenty-five-year-old Sean Tyler Quaye is currently in jail and has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and driving while prohibited following the incident on a Surrey bus in late March.
The driver was attacked by Quaye while the bus was moving and full of passengers.
The driver ended up with broken facial bones and a broken nose. The accused is well known to police, especially for violent incidents.
Woods said bus drivers are planning on showing up at the bail hearing in Surrey to show solidarity with the man.
