DIEPPE, N.B. – A small parrot that was allegedly stolen from its perch in a New Brunswick pet shop has been returned.
The RCMP says the sun conure bird named Vern was stolen from a Dieppe pet shop on March 27, and was returned by a private citizen on Monday.
Officers originally recovered a different son conure bird on April 6 they initially believed was the stolen bird, but later found out it was likely a bird named Cosmo — a sibling of Vern’s that had flown away from its owner’s home in February.
Police say two men entered the PetCulture shop on Paul Street in the evening and spent a few minutes in the store before making off with Vern.
The pet shop operators have said the bird is worth more than $1,000.
No arrests have been made in the case.
