REGINA – A new hotel under construction near the northwestern tip of the city burned to the ground after an early morning fire on Saturday.
The four-storey building fire, close to the intersection of Diefenbaker Road and Pasqua Street North, was reported to Regina Fire and Protective Services at around 3:30 a.m.
David Kinvig, acting deputy chief with Regina Fire, said the fire was declared a “defensive fire,” meaning it was fought from the outside, and exposures, such as propane tanks and a trailer at the construction site, were cooled off with water.
The fire burned for hours and was eventually put out; the scene was still smouldering as of 9:30 a.m.
No injuries have been reported, and the investigation continues.
