Toronto Morning: What you need to know today

TORONTO – The jury in the so-called “webcam” murder trial is set to hear closing arguments today.

Brian Dickson has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of a York University student from China, but his lawyer has told the jury he should instead be found guilty of manslaughter.

Qian Liu, 23, was found dead mostly naked and face down on the floor of her off-campus basement apartment on April 15, 2011.

Brandon Morrow gave up four runs and seven hits over five innings in his first start since last May 28, and the Blue Jays lost 7-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night for a split of the teams’ four-game series.

Police are hunting for suspects after a shooting in Cabbagetown overnight. A man in his 20s was gunned down inside a car which then smashed into a pole in front of a hardware store.

A veteran Associated Press photographer was killed and an AP reporter was wounded on Friday when an Afghan policeman opened fire while they were sitting in their car in eastern Afghanistan.

Investigators say unstable mental health may be the “fundamental, underlying cause” of a soldier’s shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left four people dead.
