WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have brought back Bob Wylie to help develop their offensive line.

The 20 year coaching veteran was the Bombers’ offensive line coach in 2007 and 2008 under then bench boss Doug Berry. During his first stop in Winnipeg, Wylie produced all-stars at every position on the offensive line.

After Berry was fired in 2008, Wylie moved to Saskatchewan to work with the Roughriders as their offensive line coach. He eventually returned to the NFL where he coached with the New York Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders, Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos.

Wylie was highly sought after, with the Edmonton Eskimos rumoured to be competing for his services. Wylie completes the Bombers coaching staff but will not hold the title of offensive line coach as was expected. Instead, Wylie has been hired to “oversee the development of the offensive line,” the Bombers said. The lack of a coaching label could have something to do with protecting his NFL pension but for all intents and purposes, Wylie will serve as the team’s offensive line coach.

“Bob is a great teacher of the game,” said Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea. “He has a long resume of coaching experience and we are thrilled to have him join our staff. His experience in all levels of football, on both sides of the border, is such a huge asset for us.”
