FREDERICTON – A forecast of warm temperatures, snow and rain is a cause for concern as New Brunswickers turn their attention to rivers and banks across the province.

“There’s probably not a day that goes by that I don’t get a phone call from someone, who’s concerned about what’s going to happen,” said MLA Rick Doucet.

Doucet represents the riding of Charlotte-The Isles, where a devastating 2010 flood and the 2013 ice storm have left residents worried about what spring could bring.

The province is asking for residents to watch rivers and advise the Department of Local Government and Environment if they see a change.

“If the weather is warmer than usual, there will be melting. If it’s raining, there will be more water flowing,” said Danny Soucy, Local Government and Environment Minister.

“I know that there’s significant snow that’s in the watershed in our area,” Doucet said.

“I mean it was hell on earth back in 2010, and in 2013 with the ice storm, you know we really need to do something so we can begin adapting to what’s coming.”

The ice storm in Dec., 2013 left thousands in the dark for days. The province announced they will be reviewing how the Emergency Measures Organization handled the situation.

The forecast for New Brunswick predicts freezing rain and snow for Sunday, which will switch over to rain Monday.
