TORONTO – Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne announced a major cabinet shuffle Tuesday after her Municipal Affairs minister announced her departure to run for Brampton mayor.

Changes to Wynne’s cabinet include:

  •         Thunder Bay MPP Bill Mauro becomes Minister for Municipal Affairs
  •         Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn becomes Minister of Labour
  •         Ottawa-Vanier MPP Madeleine Meilleur becomes Attorney General
  •         Ottawa-Centre MPP Yasir Naqvi becomes Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services

The job changes were announced Tuesday afternoon during a ceremony at Queen’s Park.

The announcement comes the same day as former Minister of Municipal Affairs Linda Jeffrey announced her resignation and candidacy for Brampton’s mayoralty.

Former Attorney-General John Gerretsen, MPP for Kingston, (who does not intend to run for re-election) is now without a cabinet portfolio but will serve as chairman of cabinet after being replaced by Meilleur. She becomes the province’s first francophone Attorney General.
