TORONTO — Nick Cannon said Monday the health issues that sidelined him in 2012 are firmly behind him.

“I’m healthier than I’ve ever been, I’m in better shape than I’ve ever been before,” said Cannon, whose busy career includes stand-up comedy, performing music, working as a DJ and hosting America’s Got Talent.

“Sometimes it takes one of those things to kind of move you forward in your life and change that test into a testimony.”

Appearing on Global’s The Morning Show, the 33-year-old reflected on his hospitalization for lupus nephritis, an autoimmune disease.

“It was a very scary time,” he said.

Cannon also had the support of his wife, pop superstar Mariah Carey. Married since 2008, the couple welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan nearly three years ago.

“They’re the joys of life. They keep me going,” said Cannon.

“I’m a fun dad. I’m also the disciplinarian. Mariah is the loving mom but if it’s time to discipline… daddy gets the final word.”

Cannon is in Toronto to promote his new album White People Party Music and to support 4Count, the boy band he manages.

Among his many projects is a reboot of Soul Train, a music series that ran from 1971 to 2006. Cannon, a former dancer on the show, will host the new version.

“It means so much to our culture so I’m taking my time to get it right,” he said.

Cannon said he doesn’t feel over-worked.

“I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought I would,” he said. “I’m just enjoying it.”
