Good Samaritans in Abbotsford rescue woman trapped under car

A group of Good Samaritans stopped to rescue a woman trapped under a car in Abbotsford on March 22.

The 27-year-old woman was walking near South Fraser way and Gladwin late Saturday afternoon when a car coming out of the Wendy’s parking lot and hit her.

She somehow became trapped under the Pontiac, but people nearby rushed to lift the car and pull her out.

“I saw her laying underneath the car,” said Sarah Sidhu. “People were eating in the restaurant, and just ran out to help…it’s very thoughtful.”

Around four or five men in total came to the rescue.

“The pedestrian was wearing headphones,” said Cst. Paul Walker. “It is a good reminder to take those out at intersections. Or at least take one of them out.”

The woman taken to hospital, but amazingly, police say she didn’t appear seriously hurt. The driver also stayed at the scene and cooperated with police – but according to Walker, was so distraught that he needed to be driven back home.

Walker said it was “amazing” to people step in to help.

“There’s some people that don’t want to be involved for whatever that reason is, but in this one everyone jumped in and did the right thing.”
