BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – A Halifax man accused of sexual assault testified in his own defence today, telling the court the alleged teen victim didn’t seem upset and wasn’t chained.

Sixty-four-year-old John Leonard MacKean is also charged with communicating for the purpose of obtaining sexual services from a person under 18 and has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

The 17-year-old youth testified in the province’s Supreme Court in Bridgewater on Tuesday that he was crying, wearing a blindfold and was chained to a bed during the incident on Sept. 20, 2012.

MacKean told the jury he had been told the youth was in his 20s and he couldn’t see his face because of a sleeping mask the boy was wearing.
