OTTAWA – Retired senator Mac Harb’s fraud case has been put over until April 22.

The former Liberal senator, who is facing fraud and breach of trust charges in relation to his Senate living expenses, was not in court for his first appearance on Tuesday.

An associate for his lawyer, Sean May, appeared on Harb’s behalf. Lawyer Jasna Drnda, who works with May, said the firm has received disclosure and it is “quite voluminous.” Drnda said they may receive more information about the case from the Crown.

Suspended senator Patrick Brazeau also saw his fraud and breach of trust case put over until April 28.

Brazeau’s lawyer Christian Deslaurier said his client’s matter is “very complex” and will explore the notions of primary and secondary residence in the Senate.

Both Brazeau and Harb maintain they did nothing wrong in filing expense claims for a housing allowance while sitting in the Senate.
