Rapid melting causes part of road to wash away

FILE. Global News file

CALGARY- A significant portion of a road northeast of Calgary has washed away as a result of rapid melting amid some warm March temperatures.

Officials with Rocky View County say Range Road 270 has been shut down between Township Road 270 and Highway 567.

They say crews will be out to repair the road once the water recedes.

For the most part, however, county officials say crews aren’t seeing much difference from what they normally see in March.

Officials in neighbouring Wheatland County say they have yet to see any major overland flooding but are monitoring isolated cases of flooding caused by ditches plugged because of snow drifting.

If residents of Rocky View County do experience overland flooding caused by culvert backups or from properties other than their own, they’re asked to call the county’s response centre at 403-520-6378.
