A woman has filed documents in B.C.’s Supreme Court alleging a Vancouver school teacher bullied her when she was a student.
Fariesha Khan, now 34 years old, is suing her elementary school teacher for physical, emotional and verbal abuse.
Khan was a student of a teacher named Ms. Wong at Laura Secord Elementary from 1986 to 1994.
Khan’s lawyer, Angela Rinaldis, told Global News that waiting 20 years to file a case like this is not uncommon.
“With a history of abuse, it takes some time for the victim of abuse to process what’s happened,” said Rinaldis.
She said Khan has suffered many consequences because of the alleged abuse. She said Khan required medication and counselling and has a high level of anxiety.
“It determines what you can do in life in terms of a job,” said Rinaldis. “My client has not had a job for a very long time.”
