SASKATOON – A Saskatoon police officer was narrowly missed by a truck during a traffic stop on Wednesday.
During the noon hour, police were investigating a theft when they spotted a pickup truck containing the stolen merchandise travelling on 51st Street near the airport.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and took the driver into custody.
While police were dealing with the driver, the passenger slid into the driver’s seat, put the truck into reverse and backed up into the patrol car at a high rate of speed, narrowly missed an officer.
No injuries were reported.
The 32-year-old passenger is facing charges of possession of stolen property, obstructing a police officer by resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer with a weapon and dangerous driving.
The driver is facing a possession of stolen property charge.
Both Saskatoon men were expected to appear before a justice of the peace on Wednesday evening.
