MTV Movie Awards nominees include Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel

TORONTO — Does 12 Years a Slave, Oscar’s pick for Best Picture, resonate with the MTV generation? The drama is up for Movie of the Year at the MTV Movie Awards, along with Oscar hopefuls American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street.

Also nominated as the year’s best flick are The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

The MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will be handed out in Los Angeles on April 13.

In addition to Oscar favourites like Lupita Nyong’o and Matthew McConaughey, acting nominees include stars like Jennifer Aniston (We’re the Millers) and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire).

Aniston is also up against Sam Claflin, Leonardo DiCaprio, Zac Efron, Chris Hemsworth for Best Shirtless Performance.

Other categories include Best Hero, Kiss, Comedic Performance and On-Screen Duo.

Jessica Chastain is among the nominees in the Best Scared-As-S***-Performance category for her role in the Toronto-shot Mama.

Canadian nominees include Seth Rogen (This is the End), Jim Carrey (Anchorman 2) and Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) for Best Fight and Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) for Best Villain.

Rogen and fellow Canadian Jay Baruchel earned a nod in the Best Musical Moment for their Backstreet Boys jam in This is the End.
