Residents have been complaining for years the road into Cumberland House, Saskatchewan is in bad shape and now Highway Hotline is not recommending travel on the only road into the northern community.
Travel on Highway 123 from E.B. Campbell Dam at Tobin Lake to the small community is not recommended due to the poor conditions. Only light duty, 4×4, ¾ ton and 1 ton trucks are being allowed on the gravel road.
This is nothing new for residents who have been complaining about the poor road for a number of years.
Travel from Cumberland House to the first paved road is a 95 km journey. It can take at least an hour to travel if the road is in good condition but after it rains, travel can take at least two to two-and-a-half hours.
Concerned residents are hoping the government takes their complaints about the poor road seriously.
Cumberland House is home to around 2,000 people and is located about 400 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon on the Saskatchewan River.
