Whistler RCMP arrest woman in connection with BASE jump, man still at large

Whistler RCMP have arrested the female shown in a YouTube video of a BASE jump from the PEAK 2 PEAK gondola, but they’re still searching for the man.

Sgt. Steve LeClair said the female was arrested Thursday and is facing charges of mischief over $5,000 and obstruction after allegedly providing misleading information to a police officer.

She has since been released on a promise to appear in North Vancouver court on April 2.

Mounties have identified the male who allegedly jumped from the gondola, but have yet to locate him.

A spokesperson for Whistler Blackcomb said the incident took place on Feb. 6 at about 3:45 p.m. when someone accessed the gondola and BASE jumped from the moving cabin at the highest point above Fitzsimmons Creek.

The total jump is about 436 metres.

The video of the jump, shot by a GoPro strapped to the man, shows the gondola doors being forced open and the jump out the doors.

The man lands safely at the bottom.

Whistler Blackcomb said it’s estimated that it will cost about $10,000 to repair the cabin doors.
