SASKATOON – SGI took to Twitter on Saturday for a special online traffic safety school session.
Hundreds of educational tweets were posted by @SGITweets including the latest road statistics as well as an outline of the driving points system.
The public was welcome to follow along as information was live-tweeted from a traffic safety education (TSE) session.
Drivers were reminded of some of the top driving infractions in Saskatchewan including speeding, distracted driving, running red lights and not buckling up.
Another hit topic – safety at intersections.
“Unfortunately, four out of 10 collisions, 40 per cent, happen at intersections, and there should be none,” said Alan Reichert, Saskatoon and District Safety Council media relations officer.
“When you’re approaching the intersection, you have to be slowing down, even though the light might be green. But if it turns to amber, the law requires you to stop on an amber light. Most people don’t know that.”
The province’s traffic authorities are currently in the middle of month-long blitz focused on intersection safety.
