WINNIPEG — Owners of the Pandora Inn are cleaning up after a water main break flooded their Transcona business on Friday.

The broken main sent water pouring out from under the Pandora Inn and a Chinese restaurant in the same building at the corner of Pandora Avenue and Bond Street.

“One of our employees noticed water gushing out of the front of the building and came in to notify us and the basement was filling up with water rapidly,” said Lou-Ann Andrews. “We’re not sure if it was a water main break or what happened, but our basement ended up being flooded.”

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“The basement was full right to the rafters and up onto the main floor about an inch and a half deep everywhere,” said Joe Andrews.

Everyone inside was forced to leave.

Firefighters on scene had said the electrical box in the basement was submerged.

The water froze overnight and left an icy mess outside.

The owners of the inn estimate the break caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Police were on scene Saturday investigating after the inn was broken into overnight.
