EDMONTON – RCMP are investigating a crash south of Leduc that sent two people to hospital Wednesday morning.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. on Highway 2A near Township Road 483, where RCMP say an SUV crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a small car.
A woman in her 30s, who is believed to be from Wetaskiwin, was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to an Edmonton hospital in critical condition.
RCMP Cpl. Lori Blaylock says the 62-year-old man who was driving the SUV, meanwhile, was taken to hospital in Leduc.
“He’s under investigation for impaired operation of a motor vehicle,” Blaylock added.
The section of Highway 2A between Township Road 484 and Secondary Highway 616 had to be shut down for a few hours as investigators analyzed the scene.
While the cause of the collision is still under investigation, RCMP believe alcohol was a factor in the collision. Charges are pending.
Names of those involved in the collision are not being released at this time.
