SASKATOON – A new $60 million shopping centre is under construction and it will include a couple of firsts for Saskatoon.

Stonebridge Centre will be located at the corner of Preston Avenue South and Cornish Road and when complete, will house 142,250 square feet of retail space.

Over 89,000 of that has already been leased.

Colliers International announced on Monday the anchoring tenants of the centre; Sobeys, TCU Financial Group and Shoppers Drug Mart.

The Sobeys store will be the largest in western Canada at 58,000 square feet and will be home to the grocery chains’ first liquor retail outlet in the province.

Sobeys was awarded one of two private liquor store licences in Saskatoon earlier this year.

Colliers says one unique feature of the centre is a restaurant cluster they say will be a first in Saskatoon.

Overall, the centre will be home to a number of local, regional and national retailers.

“People who live in the surrounding area will be really very excited when they find out what tenants are going to be in this development,” said Ken Suchan, senior vice-president at Colliers.

“The amount of tenant interest we’ve had in this centre has been phenomenal.”

Colliers expects the project to be fully leased by spring 2014.

Stonebridge Centre is being constructed by North Ridge Development. The liquor store expected to open in August 2014 with the remainder opening in fall 2014.
