KELOWNA – A man who says he was in a vehicle during a high speed pursuit in Kelowna that ended with tragic results says police should have broke off the chase for safety reasons.
The pursuit started when a vehicle ran a police roadblock on December 6th and soon after struck a paper carrier, putting him in hospital with critical injuries.
Don Brodie alleges RCMP rammed the suspect vehicle into the paper carrier.
He also says the wrong man has been charged with being the driver, claiming the real driver ran away from the crash scene.
“Nathan Fahl was not driving the vehicle. I’m telling you 100 percent, on my family’s life, he was not driving the vehicle.”
Brodie also says officers fired gunshots at the chase vehicle.
“I’ve been shot at before. I have a little bit of a history. I heard three pops. I know what gunshots sound like.”
Kelowna RCMP are refusing comment on brodie’s allegations.
“I think they’re covering up because they know they’re in the wrong,” says Brodie, who admits to being a prolific offender and a known gang associate.
The Independent Investigations Office is also not commenting as it continues its probe into the incident.
