The storm that began in northwestern Alberta on Saturday is still pounding Lethbridge three days later.
According to Environment Canada, about 30 cm of snow has fallen in the city. Another five centimetres are expected today.
The strong northerly winds are responsible for whiteout conditions and numerous accidents. Visibility was so reduced that some snow removal trucks could not venture out on the roads.
The winds are blowing near 50 km/h with gusts of up to 80 km/h. The good news is, the winds are expected to die down later today.

Though garbage pickup is running as scheduled today, Lethbridge Transit has suspended all services due to the dangerous roads.
Bill McMurtry of Environment Canada said that drifts of one metre or more are being reported across some areas.
As the system finally moves out later today, a cold Arctic front will descend on the area, causing temperatures to plummet.
A high of -14 C is expected for Tuesday, but temperatures will dip to -26 C during the day tomorrow, with a low of -28 C. But at least there will be sunshine.
The normal temperature for this time of year is 1 C.
Temperatures will return to near normal by Monday.
