Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher faced angry questions from residents at a public meeting Tuesday, as community members demanded an independent investigation into allegations of racist and abusive conduct by officers in a Montréal-Nord patrol unit. The unit was dismantled in June after allegations emerged, including claims officers cut the hair of racialized citizens and kept it as trophies. Dagher defended the force's decision to keep the investigation in-house, while acknowledging concerns about police culture and promising further measures aimed at rebuilding trust with the community.
