Over the past few weeks, the ongoing refugee situation in Toronto has gotten much worse, and there are now dozens of people sleeping outside a shelter in the downtown core. In the U.S., an intense heat wave continues to swelter large swaths of the country, with temperature records forecast to be broken from coast-to-coast. The year-long deal that has allowed Ukraine to export its grain products via the Black Sea is about to expire on Monday, and it’s unclear if Russia is prepared to allow it to be extended. Meanwhile, the European Union (EU) is in the final stages of passing its groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) act, which aims to regulate artificial intelligence to prevent future potential harm. And finally, the 2023 Women’s World Cup is set to kick off in Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, with Canada among the top contenders to bring home the coveted trophy.
