While providing an update Monday on the government’s progress in addressing the calls to action in the 2019 final report from the Inquiry into Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls, Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Marc Miller said the government would prioritize discussions around a “Red Dress” alert system. Advocates, including Manitoba MP Leah Gazan have been calling for such a system, which would work in the same way as an Amber Alert to send a notification through public cellphone networks when Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQ+ are reported missing.
