A temporary memorial of shoes and toys has stood on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery for almost two years, honouring victims of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. It was quietly removed in the middle of the night, an action that was only discovered when city crews arrived to execute a carefully-crafted plan to deal with the memorial. Janet Brown reports.
