The New Reality: May 13
Description
May 13, 2023
You may not realize we are now in tornado season. But Canada experiences these destructive weather systems more than almost any other country. We don't always see or hear about them because they often strike remote or unpopulated areas. But when they hit residential neighbourhoods, the damage can be catastrophic. High-tech teams are tracking these twisters across the country, determining how to better protect people and their homes. As Candace Daniel reports on this week’s episode of The New Reality, there could be a simple and affordable solution that’s been around for years. Plus, repairing all the electronics that power our daily lives can feel a little like an obstacle course. Fixing a beloved device can become such a hassle, many of us choose to replace it instead. And at a time when costs are going up, prolonging the life of a smartphone, computer or other electronic device is more important than ever. Krista Hessey talks to the people fighting for our right to repair – a movement that benefits not only the environment but also, our wallets.
