Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly discussed how the process works if a diplomat, such as one from China, would need to be expelled from the country, as NDP MP Rachel Blaney questioned her about a Globe and Mail report. The report alleges that a former consul-general in Vancouver had reportedly boasted about how she helped defeat two Conservative members during the 2021 election. Joly said it was “easier to prevent” people from coming into the country, whereas expulsion is a different process, both in terms of collecting evidence and determining “the impacts of an expulsion.”
