Alberta premier’s previous remarks on Russia-Ukraine war ‘deeply hurtful’: Freeland
Description
October 20, 2022
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said Thursday that remarks made by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith on social media platforms about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, before she became leader of the United Conservative Party (UCP), were “deeply hurtful.” Smith has since apologized for comments in which she said it would be better for Ukraine to follow Russia’s desire to remain military neutral, questioned whether parts of Ukraine might not be happier under Russian influence and wondered whether Ukraine provoked the conflict.
