Mayor Don McLaughlin Jr. of Uvalde, Texas said during a city council meeting on Tuesday that Robb Elementary School, the site of a mass shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead, would be demolished. He said that was his understanding on speaking with the superintendent. “You can never ask a child to go back or a teacher to go back in that school ever,” he said. The council also denied a request from Pete Arredondo, the police chief for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District, to take a leave of absence from future meetings.
