Canadian Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault announced on Wednesday how Canada will implement a greenhouse gas offset credit system in order to help reduce emissions at a lower cost. The proposed regulations mean one credit would be created for every tonne of emissions that are reduced, however, the credits have to be independently verified and registered before they can be sold.
