Bente Skau was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia six years ago and was told that she had a month or two to live if left untreated. After months of grueling rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant was recommended. No one in Skau’s family was a match, so she turned to Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry and was fortunate to be matched with a young soccer player from Germany. The two met recently in Toronto. Susan Hay has the story.
