Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam said on Friday that severe illness from the Omicron variant is not expected to rise although COVID-19 cases are already 400 per cent higher than they were at the peak of the third wave. The most recent test positivity rate currently sits at 29 per cent, indicating significant community transmission.
