Miller details why government pausing court appeal filed on Indigenous compensation

Indigenous-Crown Relations Minister Marc Miller defended the decision by the federal government to file what officials bill as a “protective” appeal of a court ruling upholding two orders to compensate Indigenous children placed into provincial foster care systems. He said they’re putting forward a financial package forward for compensation and move forward “on something that is so crucial” to not reproduce what could put them back into litigation in three to five years.
