Conservatives push Liberals to demand apology from Chinese ambassador

Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole on Monday accused the federal government of being “too timid” to act on China and pushed the Liberals to “demand” an apology from the Chinese ambassador over recent comments about Canadians in Hong Kong. Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland countered, saying the ambassador’s comments were “not in any way in keeping with the spirit of appropriate diplomatic relations” between the two countries and that decisions would be made by Canadians.
