Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, said on Monday that allowing COVID-19 to spread among people to achieve herd immunity is “simply unethical” as most people remain susceptible to the virus and that its long-term impacts and danger level are still not fully understood. Herd immunity is achieved by protecting people from a virus, not by exposing them to it, he added.
