Coronavirus outbreak: U.K. government sets up COVID-19 vaccine task force
U.K. Business Secretary Alok Sharma said on Friday that the government has set up a vaccine task force to coordinate the efforts of the government, academia, and industry towards a single goal: accelerating the development of a coronavirus vaccine.
The task force is aimed to ensure that a vaccine is made available to the public as quickly as possible.
The task force reports to the business and health secretaries and is led by professor Jonathan Van-Tam, the deputy chief medical officer for England and Patrick Vallance, chief scientific advisor to the government.
The task force will coordinate with regulators to facilitate trials, which are rapid and well-supervised, and will work with industry inside the U.K. and internationally.
