China gets first Costco store, frenzied shoppers shut it down

Thousands of shoppers swarmed China’s first Costco store, located within Shanghai’s suburban Minhang district, on its Aug. 27 opening day, causing such a ruckus that the store was forced to close early. Bargain-hunters reportedly overwhelmed the store, causing “chaotic…bust-ups between anxious shoppers,” according to a local interviewed by the South China Morning Post.
